Greetings
Akira Iida, Board Chairman, International Medical Society for Taheebo Research
International Medical Society for Taheebo Research (IMSTR) is established to promote exchange and build network among researchers who study efficacy/science behind Taheebo (Tabebuia avellanedae), a tree handed down since ancient days as medicinal plant in South America countries.
Due to accelerated Today’s westernized diet and super-aging society, patients with cancer and lifestyle diseases, including diabetes, which are difficult to prevent and cure by modern medicine are rapidly increased. Further, increase in food pollution and social stress damages people’s health and causes various diseases.
Under such circumstances, Taheebo’s efficacy is drawing people’s attention around the world and its study is being remarkably in progress. Recently, universities and research institutions in Japan and abroad are doing presentations at international academic meetings and contributing research report to famous journals. Accordingly, fundamental research based on scientific evidences and clinical studies progressed.
IMSTR promotes various medical research based on Taheebo’s fundamental science and traditional remedy to clarify its unknown working mechanism, find new active ingredients, and search for the possibility of clinical application.
Further, IMSTR will provide unstinting support to enable researchers in various fields, such as pharmaceutics and medicine, to accelerate research and demonstrate high-level research results, by offering opportunities to actively exchange opinions and discuss among researchers both in Japan and abroad, and by cooperating with them.
In the South America region where Taheebo grows, many as-yet-unknown medical herbs grow and there is a possibility of containing compounds necessary for human being. Therefore, we continue our activity, taking the investigation/search of such herbs into consideration.
I hope that IMSTR’s activity will contribute to people’s health and to bring a boon to difficult-to-cure diseases and disease of unknown cause.
As for lifestyle diseases, shift from treatment to prevention is being sought for to achieve healthful long life. For such reason, research from a new viewpoint, such as prevention and Mibyou (condition progressing to an ill), is expanding.
The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare proposes the prevention of lifestyle diseases and appeals the importance of improving daily dietary habit.
Research on functional foods which can be eaten on a daily basis for the purpose of disease prevention is conducted, leading to the establishment of food for specified health use (FOSHU). Such supplements are now popularized, which forms today’s health food market and is being reborn as a solid industry.
In order that the efficacy of Taheebo is widely evaluated, IMSTR is making every effort to put together research results in easy-to-understand way, and to become a core of sending information for many people to understand.
I sincerely hope that many of you understand the objective of establishing IMSTR and cooperate with our activities.
